Cell Phone Policy
J.H. Brown is taking steps to address an important topic that affects the learning environment and well-being of our students: the use of cell phones during school hours. While cell phones have become an integral part of our daily lives, their presence in the classroom can be disruptive to both learning and social development. Studies have shown that excessive cell phone use can hinder students’ ability to concentrate, reduce face-to-face interactions, and contribute to anxiety and stress. Furthermore, the constant access to social media and other distractions can detract from the educational experience we strive to provide.
To create a focused, respectful, safe, and productive learning environment, we have implemented a cell phone policy that aligns with our commitment to your child’s education and well-being. This policy is designed to minimize distractions and help students stay engaged with their teachers and peers during school hours.
Key points of the Policy:
Cell Phones and Smart Watches Off and Stored in Cell Phone Locker:
Students must turn off their cell phones and Smart Watches and have them stored in designated locker located in their classroom at the beginning of the school day.
Students will have their phones and smart watches returned to them at the end of the school day.
Consequences for Non-Compliance:
If the student refuses to lock up their phone, or if found using a cell phone, the following progressive consequences will be enacted:
First Offense: The cell phone will be taken away and returned to the student at the end of the school day. Parents will be notified.
Second Offense: The cell phone will be taken away, and a parent or guardian must pick it up from the office.
Third Offense: The cell phone will be taken away and returned at the end of the school year.
We believe that this policy will support a more focused and respectful learning environment. However, we also recognize that this is a shared responsibility. We encourage you to talk with your child about the importance of this policy and how it will help them succeed academically and socially.
Thank you for your support and understanding as we work together to provide the best possible educational experience for our students. If you have any questions or concerns about the new cell phone policy, please do not hesitate to reach out.
